On this morning, I woke very early, feeling called to go to Long Jetty, and arrived well before sunrise. Its good to be early on location, to absorb the atmosphere and follow the transition of the light. When first light came, the whole scene was shrouded in mist. But as the waxing light began to promise the coming of a new day, the mist slowly lifted, revealing the jetty. It was as if the mist was attached to the rising sun and being drawn away by it. Then, just before sunrise, these glorious twilight colours broke through the remnants of the mist and the jetty became like a portal, inviting us to walk down into a mysterious new day. I love the minimalism of this shot, but it also has a surreal dimension that draws you in to this moment in time. That is why Ive called it The Twilight Zone.
